Forsyth County voters approved a bond issue to allow the local community college purchase the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System headquarters building adjacent to the college. This required the school system to look for a replacement building. The selected building had once served as the headquarters for Champion.
Thomas H. Hughes Architecture was hired to do an initial due diligence study and report for this and another building. Barry Parks served as the lead on that investigation and, once the purchase was complete, the lead architect for the remodeling in this 3-story, 105,000 square foot facility. Working with a very limited budget, the project focused on re-utilization of existing partitions where ever possible, but organized the interior with linkages between related departments and a focus on safety issues.
After occupancy, the school system commissioned Parks to design interior and exterior signs for this and another building.
